Excellent Ideas on How to Create a Mummy Halloween Costume

Article by Felix Salvador

Did you know that mummies are originally corpse bodies wrapped in strips of cloth usually done as a traditional burial method during the ancient years? Their body are kept under extreme temperature that most of their skin and body parts are well-preserved. Now, if you want to be a mummy on Halloween, you do not need to die and even get buried. You just grab a few yards of cloth and make an excellent mummy costume for Halloween.

If you are going to show up as an ancient mummy on your Halloween party, you need to look as a real mummy- not just by wrapping around your body with a toilet paper. That method was known ineffective, in terms of quality and cost. You can get to look as authentic mummies seen on movies if you follow the excellent ideas on how to create a mummy Halloween costume.

In order to achieve a mummified body seen on Hollywood movies, you need to look as you were wrapped in old and dirty bandages. You can use an old sheet of white cloth that you can buy on a second-hand store for a cheaper price. Soaking the cloth in a bucket of black tea is a perfect way to portray discolored bandages as a result of being hidden under the tomb for how many years. This advice is best done when the sheets are not yet cut into long strips.

Aside from adding exceptional quality to the appearance of your costume, it is also necessary to feel and look comfortable while wearing your costume. Thus, it is recommended for you to wear a fitting, yet flexible under suit to prevent the dyed strips of cloth to rub against your bare skin. You can find cheap warmers or jogging suit in case that you will only use it once. You can also stitch the cloth right into your under suit, but, just make sure it is not sewed up tightly.

When covering your head, wrap it like the way ancient people wrap their head when they have toothache. You can also use black-painted safety pins to secure the cloth in place. To look more realistic, put some gaps in between sheets when covering your head, then poke some pieces of hair outside to create a messed up mummy-look, like he has just recently awakened from sleep. Face paint is a terrific way to put a mummy makeup, plus put some pieces of oatmeal for that old and decaying skin. Lastly, you can sprinkle baby powder over your entire costume for that dusty and vintage-looking mummy.

These are only some of the excellent ideas to include in your mummy costume. You do not have to stay within the limit; you can use your wild imagination and add more details in your costume. By the way, it is Halloween; you can do whatever you want to create a scary mummy costume!

Halloween Costume Ideas

Article by Diane L.J. Nassy

Halloween has to be one of the most exciting times of the year, other than Christmas for your children. At the same time with a shortage of funds affecting many households today because of the recent economy slump, buying those expensive costumes that your children always seem to pick out can be a real problem. Halloween only comes once a year, and it can be pretty heartbreaking for a child to be told they can’t participate in Halloween activities because their parents can’t afford costumes. Watching all the other children enjoy the excitement of door to door trick or treating can make it even harder to explain this to your child.

The wonderful thing about Halloween is that you have an opportunity to be creative and make your children’s costumes yourself. Depending on the look your child is going for, it doesn’t have to take up all your time, and your children would be delighted to join in and help. This will make the event just as fun for you as it is for your child.

Consider going through some of the family’s closet and clean out clothing that has gotten too small, old, or just no longer popular for wear. Get all of them together and place them in a pile for later. You can use the material to make capes and other Halloween costumes. Next check your make up pouch for makeup to use for decorating your child’s face. If your child wants more of a Frankenstein look, consider using flower as a base coat. You can even visit your local costume store to check out some costume jewelry which normally costs a little of nothing.

Even if the costumes don’t come out to look like those in the store, the idea is to be creative and show your children that Halloween is all about having fun, so they don’t have to be perfect as long as your child likes it. You can make changes as you and your child work on it together. In the end your child will appreciate that you spent time with them to create something that fit their particular style specifically.

Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas

Article by george p white

Halloween is almost upon us and you have yet to decide on a costume for the occasion. What do you do? What options are left for you?

Scour Websites And Stores For Last Minute Deals

Websites and stores that sell Halloween costumes make nearly all of their income at this time. This can mean that if you contact them at the last minute they might have lots of good deals and be trying to get rid of stock fast, otherwise their stock just gathers dust for another year.

Online stores have guaranteed delivery times so there is no need to worry about your costume not arriving in time, they know that this is a major concern of buyers.

Make Your Own

Another idea is to make your own costume at home. It may not be as good as a bought one but it will get you into a Halloween party if you put a little work into it.

The simplest is a ghost costume. Easily made using nothing more than a bed sheet and then cutting eyes for holes. I actually know this because I had to resort to this one year myself! I certainly got my fair share of goodies with no problems at all.

Another is Rambo or an American soldier in Vietnam look. You only need a strip of red material to wrap around your head and some black makeup (you can even use an eyeliner pencil) to make marks under your eyes and you are done. Instead of the red material, you can also wrap a green towel around your head and secure it behind the head with some duck tape. Of course it would do no harm to jazz it up a bit.

The zombie look is easy to achieve and only need take minutes. You can either wear old clothes (better)or simply wear everyday clothes like a suit or dress. This is because the most important part of the get-up is your facial appearance. Just make sure that your hair looks unkempt and grease it up with hair products as necessary. A real grotesque zombie look can easily be achieved with regular makeup – just check out YouTube, there are countless video tutorials showing you how to achieve this. It is a very easy look to copy.

There are also many more ideas that can be done as a last minute costume using a pair of old sweatpants. For example, take some dark sweatpants and a dark sweatshirt or T-shirt then draw bones on it with white acrylic paint. Use white face paint for the face. There you have it, an awesome skeleton costume!

Best way of all of course, be on time and get your costume early….
